First of all, is not an equation. There is no equals sign. It is an expression.

This problem a quite simple once you understand what

represents. It represents "the expression you would raise to the 1976th power to get 2a+b as the result". And look at what is happening to it. It is being raised to the 1976th power! So, by definition:
