The easiest way to rationalize this is to turn the denominator into a perfect square. So we want to turn the 12 into a perfect square. The obvious thing to do would be to multiply the numerator and denominator by 12. This will definitely work.

But any perfect square denominator will work and it will be faster and easier if we multiply by 3/3:
