Did you mean x^2 -26x = 0???

If so, there are TWO steps: Take HALF of the x coefficient, and SQUARE! Half of 26 is 13, and 13 squared is 169. (If this is NOT what you meant, send me an Email, and let me know what you really did mean.)
x^2 - 26x = 0

Half of 26 is 13, and 13 squared is 169, so you add 169 to each side of the equation.

x^2 - 26x + 169 = 0 + 169
(x-13)^2 = 169

Take the square root of each side:
