two consecutive positive integers such that the sum of their square is 85
-----------
Let 1st be "x".
Then 2nd is "x+1".
EQUATION:
x^2+(x+1)^2=85
x^2+x^2+2x+1=85
2x^2+2x-84=0
Divide thru by 2 to get:
x^2+x-42=0
Factor as follows;
(x+7)(x-6)=0
x=6 is the positive answer and the 1st number
x+1= 7 is the 2nd number.

Stan H.
