You are right as the equation can be written as %28sqrt%283%29%29%5E2+-+%282sqrt%282%29%29%5E2
according to the formula (a+b)(a-b) = (a^2 - b^2)
therfore upon solving you get 3 - 4*2 = 3 - 8 = - 5
