Question 318283: Can you help me with a word problem?
A baseball diamond is a square, 90 feet on a side. A shortstop fields a grounder at a point one-half of the way from second base to third base. How far will he have to throw the ball to make an out at first base? (Give your answer correct to 2 decimal places.)
D2 = 452 + 902
D2 = 2025 + 8100
D2 = sqrt 10125
D = sqrt 10125 = 45 * sqrt 5
My answer is coming out as 100.35. What am I doing wrong?
Please advise.
Thank you!!
