Question 296518: The cost in millions of dollars for a company to manufacture x thousand automobiles is given by the function C(x) = 5x^2-40x + 144. Find the number of automobiles that must be produced to maximize the cost.
I came up with 64 thousand but that was wrong.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The vertex is 4,64
when x=4 then c(4)=64
4 is the x and 64 is the y
you want the x not the y
4000 automobiles then 64 million dollars
means 16,000 each
