Question 290114: How do I solve for:
a) 5 + sqrt. x = 15
b) 2 sqrt. x + 1 = sqrt. x - 5

Answer by alegriajoy33(14)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Okay
5+sqrtx =15
subtract 5
so you get
sqrtx=15
now square both sides you get
x=225
I am not sure what b is so I am going to do what I think it is.
2*sqrt(x+1)= sqrt (x-5)
first thing square bot sides.
you get
4*(x+1)=x-5 distribute
4x+4=x-5 subtract x
3x+4=-5 add 5
3x+9=0 subtract 9
3x=-9 divide by 3
x=-3 answer
I hope I did this one right I know the first one is right the second I am not quite possitive on but I am pretty sure itis right.
