"45th" is the ordinal number corresponding to the cardinal number "45".
"1st" is the ordinal number corresponding to the cardinal number "1".
"100th" is the ordinal number corresponding to the cardinal number "100".
So
"nth" is the ordinal number corresponding to the cardinal number "n".
