Question 231867: Explain how the graph of y= little 3 sqaure root x+2 -4 can be obtained from the graph of y= little 3 sqaure root x.
A. translate 2 units to the right and 4 units up
B. translate 2 units to the right and 4 units down
C. translate 2 units to the left and 4 units up.
D. translate 2 units to the left and 4 units down.
Answer by jsmallt9(3758) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(NOTE: This includes a correction to my earlier solution. My earlier solution overlooked the "minus" in -4. The translation, therefore is down, not up!)
In general,- if f(x) = g(x-h), then the graph of g is the graph of f translated h units to the right. And since (x+h) = (x-(-h)), g(x+h) is translated k units to the left.
- If f(x) = g(x) + k, then the graph of g is the graph of f translated k units up. And g(x) - k is translated k units down.
- These effects are independent of each other. So if f(x) = g(x-h) + k is translated h units to the right and k unit up.
So the graph of will be the graph of translated 2 units to the left and 4 units down. (D)
