Question 228692: solve sqrt x + 5 = sqrt x^2 - 15
Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Square both sides:

It's quadratic, so set it equal to zero by subtracting x +5 from each side:

There are two solutions:
x= 5 or x=-4

You HAVE TO CHECK the answers:
First solution: x=5

It checks!

Second solution: x=-4

It checks!

Both solutions work, x= 5, x=-4.
