Question 171706: I just sent a question and one of the tutors stated it was not english. On my homework page it is worded as such: 1/8th of the square root of 7 less than a number is 2. Question: What is the number? Thanks.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/8th of the square root of 7 less than a number is 2.
---------
Yes, it can be read at least two ways.
But, let's give it a try.
--------------------
(1/8)sqrt(x-7) = 2
Multiply both sides by 8 to get:
sqrt(x-7) = 16
Square both sides to get:
x-7 = 256
x = 263
