Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
 y =
Square both sides:
y^2 = 3y + 10
Arrange as a quadratic equation on the left:
y^2 - 3y - 10 = 0
Factor
(y-5)(y+2) = 0
Two solutions
y = +5
y = -2
:
Always test solutions in the original equation, especially when dealing with radicals
y = 5:
5 =
5 =  a good solution
:
y =-2:
 -2 =
-2 =
-2 does not = +2, not a solution
