This is what I am doing and I keep coming up with wrong answers. I subtracted the .7 from both sides and came up with .8x^2 = 26.2. My final answer was x=32.75. I divided the .8 from both sides. However, back of the book has a completely different answer

You had everything right as far as you went, but...
When you got to:
0.8x%5E2+=+26.2 and you correctly divided both sides by 0.8, you should have got:
x%5E2+=+32.75 not x+=+32.75, so now you have to take the square root of both sides to find x.
x+=+sqrt%2832.75%29
x+=+5.72276 approximately.
