Question 136382: PLEASE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM FROM BLITZER 4 COLLEGE ALGEBRA.
(1) suppose that N = sqrt x+4 models the number of cases of an infection, in millions, of a disease x years from now
(a) approximately how many cases of the infection will there be 16 years from now?
(b) in approximately how many years will there be 6 million cases?

N is the number of millions of cases and x is the number of years. So for part a of your problem, substitute 16 for x and do the arithmetic. For part b, you need to solve the equation for x by squaring both sides of the equation and then subtracting 4 from both sides. Then you can substitute 6 for N and do the arithmetic to solve for x.
