Question 122074: My question is:
what is the cube root of x -5=3
From what I understand cube root is the same as writing 1/3
This is what I have tried to figure it out:
cube root of x -5+5=3+5
cube root of x=8
1/3x / 1/3 = 8 / 1/3
x=2.664
We are asked to change all noninteger numbers as a fraction so my final answer is:
x=2 33/50
Is this correct?

Answer by tutor_paul(519)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Not quite right...you are OK up to this point:
cube_root_of x=8
But to find x, you need to cube both side of the equation:

------------------------
You were confusing how to incorporate that 1/3 term...
The cube_root_of x is also written as:

Don't confuse that with what you did
