Question 402902: a father is 32 years older than his son. in 4 years the father will be 5 times as old as his son. how old is each now ?
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = father's age
y = son's age

x = y + 32
x + 4 = 5(y + 4)

Plug in x = y + 32 into the second equation. (substitution)

y + 32 + 4 = 5(y + 4)
y + 36 = 5y + 20
16 = 4y
y = 4

The father is 36 and the son is 4.
