Question 285382: I have been trying to solve this problem and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. The answer that I get does not match the answer in the back of my book, and I would like to come up with the right one.
The question reads...
Evaluate 4x + 3(y +5)when x is 1 less than the quotient of y and 4 and y = 12
I thought that y would equal 4 and x would equal 2 but it does not come out right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time

Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y = 12
x = y/4 - 1 = 12/4 - 1 = 2
4x + 3(y + 5)
= 4(2) + 3(12 + 5)
= 8 + 51 =
