It takes 2 minutes to climb 1 foot, but it falls back 6 inches each time it reaches 1 foot. How long will it take the caterpillar to crawl to the top of the 8 foot tree? 2. You have 12 mp3 songs on your computer. 1/4 of them don't work. How many mp3's do you have to buy to replace the ones that don't work?Answer by ShainaCynthia(1)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! If it gains 1 foot in 2 minutes, but it loses 6 inches each time , then it really only gains 6 inches every 2 minutes. There's 12 inches per foot, and 8 ft total 8X12 = 96inches to climb 96inches divided by 6 inches = 16(2 min crawls) 16crawls X 2 mins per crawl = (32mins) Or.... if it falls back 6 inches each time it reaches 1 ft, then it will never get past 1 ft, and therefore never reach the top. lol
