EX is (+9)+(-8)= the two signs are different so do i just subtract both now,because the signs in parantheses are different

Question 220214: Okay. Heres a question I absolutely do NOT get.
If a certain number is decreased by 8 and that difference is multiplied by 8, the result is equal to the result obtained if the number is decreased by 6 and that difference is multiplied by 6. Find the numbers.
In my opinion this is a make-believe question :(
