(7-1)^2 = 6^2 = 36

I cannot understand how (7-1)^2 equals 36 but 7•7-1-1 equals 47 what am I doing wrong? 
No-one can know what you're doing wrong since you failed to share your work.

 = , or 6(6), or 36

7(7) – 1 – 1 = 49 – 1 – 1, or 47
