Question 881613: Dear Sir/Madam;
Kindly help me with this question: The sum of the first 50 terms of an arithmetic progression is 200 and the sum of the next 50 terms is 2700. Find the first term. Thanks a lot!

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
S = ½(2a + (n-1)d)n
2700= ½(2a + (49)d)50
2700= 25(2a + 49d)
2700= ½(2a + (49)d)50
200 = ½(2a + 99d)100
2700= 25(2a + 49d)
108=2a + 49d
200 = 50(2a + 99d)
108=2a + 49d
4= 2a + 99d
104=-50d
52=-25d
-52/25=d
A1 = 2624/25
