Question 848190: The sum of two numbers is 11. Ten times the smaller number minus 5 times the larger number is 8. What are the two numbers?
Answer by swincher4391(1107) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y = 11
10x-5y = 8
multiply the top by 5.
5x+5y=55
10x-5y=8
---------
15x = 63
x = 21/5
10(21/5) - 5y = 8
42 - 5y = 8
-5y = -34
y = 34/5
21/5, 34/5 (which add up to 11)
