Question 824194: if (a-b) : (a+b) = 1:11, find the ratio (5a+4b+15) : (5a-4b+3).
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if (a-b) : (a+b) = 1:11, find the ratio (5a+4b+15) : (5a-4b+3)
-----
Equations:
a-b = 1
a+b = 11
----
Add and solve for "a":
2a = 12
a = 6
----
a + b = 11
6 + b = 11
b = 5
------------------
So, 5a+4b+15 = 5*6+4*5 + 15 = 65
And, 5a-4b+3 = 5*6-4*5+3 = 30-20+3 = 13
-------------------
Ans 65:13
