Question 807857: may you please help with this question: There are four boxes in a line.In how many ways can fifteen distinct objects be placed into these boxes such that each box contain at least one object and the number of objects in each box gives a geometric series with integer first term and common ratio?. Thank you!!
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
start with 1 and a common ratio of 2 and we get
1, 2, 4, 8 and the sum of the objects is 15
now there are 4! ways to arrange 1, 2, 4, 8 and
4! = 4*3*2*1 = 24 ways
this answer assumes that one is allowed to rearrange each distinct way into
1, 2, 4, 8
for example,
2, 1, 4, 8 is allowed to be arranged into 1, 2, 4, 8 for the common ratio 2
