how do i solve this:
{2 over 3x -3y = 1 over 5
{2x-9y =4
i know you have to find out what x and y equiels to but i don't know how.

Solving systems by elimination
how do i solve this:
{2 over 3x -3y = 1 over 5
{2x-9y = 4
:
Here is the 1st equation as I understand it:
It is easier to deal with if we get rid of the denominators,
mult the equation by 15 (common denominator of 3 & 5)and we have:
10x - 45y = 3
:
The 2nd equation:
2x - 9y = 4
:
In order to eliminate one of the unknowns we can make them equal by multiplying
one or both equations, then subtracting:
:
Leave the 1st equation as it is, and mult the 2nd equation by 5, we have;
10x - 45y = 3
10x - 45y = 20
---------------- subtract
0x + 0 y = -17
:
The problem here is we eliminated both unknowns, this tells us there is no
solution to this system of equations. If you plotted these, you would find
that the lines are parallel, (have the same slope).
