Question 574037: How many terms are there in a geometric sequence if 6 is the first term, 1/2 is the common ratio and 3/64 is the last term?
Answer by reviewermath(1029)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To get the 2nd term, multiply the first term by the common ratio 1/2, the result is 6(1/2) = 3.
To get the 3rd term, multiply the 2nd term by the common ratio 1/2, the result is 3(1/2) = 3/2.
If we continue, the terms of the geometric sequence are:
6, 3, 3/2, 3/4, 3/8, 3/16, 3/32, 3/64
We just multiply by 1/2 to get the next term.
By inspection, 3/64 is the 8th and last term.
Answer: 8
