Question 550990: Which pays more over the course of 10 days - $100 per day for the 10 days or one dollar the first day, $2.00 the second, $4.00 the third, $8.00 the fourth, etc., up to and including the 10th day?
Please help me solve this problem from my text book and show steps please. Thanks!

$100 per day for 10 days will just be $100*10=$1000
The next one is a bit harder. To write its equation we would have to do summation notation (the sum of 1*2^(n-1) as n goes from 1 to 10), but to do it simply, we can just figure out the 10 days and sum them
We are doubling each day.
so we have 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512=1023
So doubling pays more
