Question 496457: Problem in math book:
18 and three times d
I am confused on how to express that because I don't know if and means to add or multiply. Thank you for your help.

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
18 and three times d
"and" means + (plus) and times means × (to multiply)

18 and three times d
 ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
18 + 3 × d

You can leave out the × and just write the 3 next to the d.
like this:

     18 + 3d
