W = 10
H = 3

the volume of the box would be L * W * H = 12 * 10 * 3 = 360 cubic inches.

the area of the bottom of the box would be L * W = 10 * 12 = 120 square inches.

the area of one of the long sides of the box would be L * H = 12 * 3 = 36 square inches.

the area of one of the short sides of the box would be W * H = 10 * 3 = 30 square inches.

the box contains 1 bottom, 2 long sides, 2 short sides.

there is no top to the box because it's an open box.

The total area of cardboard would be 1 * 120 + 2 * 36 + 2 * 30 = 120 + 72 + 60 = 192 + 60 = 252 square inches.
