You note that the values are all divisible evenly by 2 (that is, there is no remainder). So the number 2 is part of the pattern...after you get past the starting 1.

Of we know that 2%5E0 (for that matter, any number 'x' raised to the zeroth power) = 1.

2%5E2 = 4.
2%5E3 = 8.
.
So that seems to match the pattern. The next in the sequence would likely be:
