Question 258570: How do I write a formula for M in terms of t?
This is the chart I'm given:
number of triangles (t) number of sticks (m) (making a pattern of triangles
1 (one) 6 (six)
2 (two) 10 (ten)
3 (three)
4 (four)
5 (five)
oops...the 6 and the 10 are supposed to appear under the column no.of sticks (m)
I just need a model answer so I can understand how to approach other ones. Any help would be really apprectiated.

I think I understand your question
1 triangle = 3 sticks
2 triangles = 5 sticks
3 triangles = 7 sticks
and so on . . .
--
2t + 1 = m
is the formula
--
t=1 - -> 2(1) +1 = 3 = m
t=2 - - > 2(2) + 1 = 5 = m
t=3 - - > 2(3) + 1 = 7 = m
t=4 - - > 2(4) + 1 = 9 = m
t=5 - - > 2(5) + 1 = 11 = m
t=6 - - > 2(6) + 1 = 13 = m
t=10 - -> 2(10) + 1 = 21 = m
--
Hope this helps

Thank you lots....The only problem is... I can't write chart up right on computer.
Number of triangles (t) 1 number of sticks (m) 6
Number of triangles (t) 2 number of sticks (m) 10 (not 3)
It must've been the bad way I wrote up the chart.
Then it continues:
Number of triangles 9t) 3 number of sticks (m)_____
4 _____
5 _____
Can you stil help because the 2t 1 1 =m formula doesn't work here with
t being 2 and m being 10. Any help appreciated lots :)
