this is a direct proportion problem

this means when one variable increases then so does the other and vice versa

you will notice that the value increased from 110 to 150 so the tax has to increase too

8.5(150)=(110)x

110x=1275

The proportion relating the tax to the value of the item bought.
8.50/110=tax/150
(8.5*150)/110 = tax
Solce for tax
tax = 11.59
