Frankly, the sequence was generated by the author of the sequence writing down a particular sequence of digits....

There is absolutely no way to determine what the next number is that he was going to write -- unless you know him and can ask him. ANY subsequent number(s) will form a valid sequence.

In ANY problem like this, where all you have is a sequence of numbers without any information about what kind of sequence it is, it is IMPOSSIBLE to know what the next number(s) are.

Spend as much (or as little!) time as you want looking for a pattern... knowing that any answer you come up with might not be "right".
