Not a valid math question -- just like ANY other problem like this.

ANY next number(s) will form a valid sequence, so it is ALWAYS IMPOSSIBLE to know the "right" answer to ANY question like this.

Spend a short amount of time looking for some logical pattern in the given numbers. But realize that any logical answer you come up with might not be "right".

Here is what I see, leading to a POSSIBLE answer to the problem.

7 times 2 plus 2 = 16; 16 divided by 2 = 8
8 times 3 plus 3 = 27; 27 divided by 3 = 9
9 times 4 plus 4 = 40; 40 divided by 4 = 10.

So the next two numbers in the sequence MIGHT be 40 and 10.

But you/I can never know....

.

Two different sequences are alternate here

   7, 8, 9   on odd places

    16 = 2^4 = 4^2,  27 = 3^3  on even places.

Only the author of the problem knows what idea is in his mind.

   And it is just very happy end when the author knows it . . .

   Unhappy end is when the author does not know . . .
