If three numbers ,   and   form an arithmetic progression, then

 -  =  - ,


by the definition of an arithmetic progression.


It gives you an equation, in your case,


(5p+2) - (4p+3) = (4p+3) - (2p+3).


Simplify and solve for "p".


Then, having "p", restore the three numbers.

the formula for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is
:
x(n) = a + d(n-1), where a is the first term and d is the common difference
:
x(1) = a + d(1-1) = a, therefore
:
a = 2p +3
:
we see that the second term ( x(2) ) is
:
4p +3 = 2p +3 +d
:
solve for d
:
d = 2p
:
x(3) is
:
5p +2 = 2p +3 +2p(2)
:
solve for p
:
5p +2 = 6p +3
:

p = -1
*******
:
therefore, a=1, d=-2 and the sequence is
:
1, -1, -3
