I can't see any way the hint helps....

But I DO KNOW that, since this is a riddle, there is no way to know the "right" answer, even if you see a logical pattern.

So trying to solve a problem like this only involves guessing what pattern the creator of the problem had in mind.

And that's a problem in psychology -- not mathematics.
