Question 1086512: A rocket travels vertically 2500 feet in its first second of flight, and then about 50 feet less each succeeding second.
a) Write a sequence of the vertical distance traveled by the rocket in each of its first 6 seconds.
(Accounting for the 50-foot decrease for each consecutive second, I wrote out "2500, 4950, 7350, 9700, 12000, and 14250"...which was marked INCORRECT.)
b) Is the sequence in part (a) an arithmetic sequence?
(I wrote "NO" because I added 50 less feet for each consecutive second. This again was marked INCORRECT.)
c) What is the general term of the sequence in part (a)?
(Because I was under the impression that this was not an arithmetic sequence, I wrote "DNE", which again was marked INCORRECT).
Where did I go wrong here?
Answer by ikleyn(52905) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
It is because you didn't read the condition attentively.
The sequence for a) is 2500, 2450, 2400, . . .
Now compare it with you wrote in your post.
Do you see the difference ?
