The school math problems of this kind usually belong to one of the two types:
1) smart ones, and
2) all the rest.
Smart problems are those that teach a student to something useful. Methods, approaches, techniques . . .
To something that close relates to arithmetic or geometric progressions, binomial coefficients,
math induction and so on (if we talk about sequences).
The others are intended to demonstrate how smart and clever is the author.
I can not classify the given problem as belonging to the class 1. I do not see any signs for it.
