Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
W=width; L=length=3W+1cm; P=perimeter=58cm
P=2(L+W)
58cm=2(L+W) Divide each side by 2.
29cm=L+W Substitute for L.
29cm=(3W+1cm)+W
29cm=4W+1cm Subtract 1cm from each side.
28cm=4W Divide each side by 4.
7cm=W ANSWER 1: The width is 7cm.
L=3W+1=3(7cm)+1cm=22cm ANSWER 2: the length is 22cm.
CHECK:
P=2(L+W)
58cm=2(22cm+7cm)
58cm=2(29cm)
58cm=58cm
