A floor of a large hall is in the shape of a rectangle. It is to be covered with square tiles that each have an area of 16 square feet.
If the length of the floor is 52 yards and width is 40 yards, how many tiles are needed to cover the floor?
The side of the square tile is = 4 ft
The length of the floor is 52 yards=156 feet.
The width of the floor is 40yards=120 feet.
It will take 156ft/4ft/tile= 39 tiles for the length.
It will take 120ft/4ft/tile= 30 tiles for the width
And (30)(39)=1170 tiles ANSWER: It will take 1170 tiles.
CHECK:
The floor is 156ft*120ft=18720 square feet
18720sqft/16sqft/tile=1170 tiles.
