Question 956475: A rectangle is 2 1/2 inches long. Its width is 1 1/8 inches less than its length. Find the perimeter of the rectangle.
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P(rectangle)= 2L+2W, where L is the length and W the width.
P= 2(2 1/2)+ 2(2 1/2 - 1 1/8) find the common denominator in order to subtract, 8 is divisible by 2 and by 8 so we have our common denominator. Also, convert to fractions: We now have:
P= 5 + 2(20/8 - 9/8); P= 5 + 2(11/8); P= 5 + 22/8= 40/8+22/8= 62/8 simplify, 62 goes into 8 7 times and you have P= 7 6/8 6 and 8 are both divisible by 2, simplify: P= 7 3/4 is your perimeter.
