Question 955229: The perimeter of a rectangle garden is 82 feet. The length is five more than twice the width. What is the width of the garden?
Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
W=width; L=length=2W+5; P=perimeter=82ft
P=2(L+W) Substitute for L
82ft=2(2W+5+W) Divide each side by 2
41ft=3W+5 Subtract 5 from each side.
36ft=3W Divide each side by 3.
12ft=W ANSWER The width of the garden is 12 feet.
CHECK:
L=2W+5=2(12ft)+5=29 ft
P=2(L+W)
82ft=2(29ft+12ft)
82ft=2(41ft)
82ft=82ft
