Question 952493: The length of a rectangle is 11 cm more than the width. The perimeter is 90cm. find the length and the width of the rectangle
Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
W=width; L=length=W+11cm; P=perimeter=2(L+W)
P=2(L+W)
90cm=2(L+W) Divide each side by 2.
45cm=L+W Substitute for L
45cm=(W+11cm)+W Subtract 11cm from each side.
34cm=2W Divide each side by 2.
17cm=W ANSWER 1: The width is 17 cm.
L=W+11cm=17cm+11cm=28cm ANSWER 2: The length is 28 cm.
CHECK:
P+2(L+W)
90cm=2(28cm+17cm)
90cm=2(45cm)
90cm=90cm
