Question 944819: A rectangular parking lot has lenngth 10 feet more than twice its width. The perimeter of the parking lot is 620 feet. What are the dimensions of the parking lot?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L=length, W=width, P=perimeter
L=2W+10
P=2(L+W) Substitute for L
P=2((2W+10)+W)
P=2(3W+10)
P=6W+20 P=620 ft (given)
620 feet=6W+20 Subtract 20 from each side
600 feet = 6W Divide each side by 6
100 ft=W ANSWER 1: Width of parking lot is 100 ft
L=2W+10=2(100)+10=210 feet ANSWER 2: Length of parking lot is 210 ft
Dimensions of parking lot are 210 ft long by 100 ft wide.
CHECK
Perimeter=620 ft=2(L+W)
620 ft=2(210 ft+100ft)
620 ft=2(310 ft)
620 ft=620 ft
