length = l
width = w
From the given problem "one more than three times the width"
i.e; l = 1+3w
Perimeter =p
Formula:p=2l+2w
Given P=58 inches
Substitute l=1+3w in the perimeter p
2(1+3w)+2w=58
2(1+3w+w/)=58
1+4w =58/2
1+4w= 29
4w =29-1
4w =28

w= 7
l= 1+3*7
= 1+21
=22
l= 22 inches
w = 7 inches
area = lx w
=22x7
= 154 square inches
