Question 920866: The width of a rectangle is
9
centimeters less than the length. The area is
136
square centimeters. Find the length and width of the rectangle.
Answer by Hawksfan(61) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A = L*W = 136
W = L - 9
Substitute w in to the A equation...
A = L ( L -9) = 136
L^2 -9L - 136 = 0
(L -17)(L+8)=0
L -17= 0
L = 17
L + 8 = 0
L = -8
L cant =-8
therefore L = 17
