Question 914040: The width of a rectangle is 1/4 of the length. The area is twice the perimeter. What are the dimensions of the rectangle? Found 2 solutions by Lenzky, MathTherapy:Answer by Lenzky(18) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! - Length - Wide
Perimeter
Area times both side by 4 &
Checking:
Length:
Wide:
P= 2L + 2W
P= 2(20) + 2(5)
P= 40 + 10
P= 50
A= LW
A= 20 x 5
A= 100
2P = A
2(50) = 100
100 = 100
Let width of rectangle be W
Then length = 4W
Area of rectangle: W(4W), or
Perimeter of rectangle: 2(W + 4W), or 2(5W), or 10W
Therefore, we get:
4W(W – 5) = 0
W – 5 = 0 OR 4W = 0
W, or width = OR W = 0 (ignore)
Length: 4(5), or units of length
