Question 909837: the length of the garden is 10 feet more than twice the width. the diagonal is 25 feet. determine the length and width
Answer by ewatrrr(24785)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
applying the Pythagorean Theorem
w^2 + (2w+10)^2 = 625ft^2
w^2 + 4w^2 + 40w + 100 = 625ft^2
5w^2 + 40w -525 = 0
w^2 + 8w - 105 = 0
(w + 15)(w-7) = 0 (Tossing out the negative solution for unit measure)
w = 7ft and L = 24ft
And checking...
49 + 576 = 625
