Question 909666: Twice the length of a rectangle is 5 cm less than triple the width. If its perimeter is 50 cm, what is the area? Please show the representation ( ex. Let x be ________) and the working equation. I already know the answer but I got the answer using trial and error. Thank you very much!
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P = 2L + 2W
2L = 3W-5
Substitute the value of 2L from the first equation into the second.
P = 2L + 2W
50 = (3W-5) + 2W
50 = 5W - 5
55 = 5W
11 = W
If the width is 11, then two times the length is thrice that (33) minus 5, or 28/2 = 14
14+14+11+11 = 50
